Attorney Mark O'Mara: George Zimmerman 'troubled' by charges against him

In his first interview since signing on as attorney for George Zimmerman, Mark O'Mara told CNN's Tom Foreman his client is "troubled" by the decision by a Florida special prosecutor to seek second degree murder charges in the death of Trayvon Martin.

    "What happens next"?

Very simple – Zimmerman stands trial and his guilt or innocense is determined by the facts and by the law.

As opposed to 'no need to charge him, it's just another dead black hood', sweep it under the table dismissal the way the local prosecutor wanted it.

Oh, what the hell.....everyone is so afraid to be called a racist. The only criteria needed anymore to be a racist is to be accused of being one. So too bad, I'm a racist for even saying that. You can't shut me up, or anyone else with any guts, by calling me a racist. This socially correct garbage is bull, and every normal person knows it. Everybody is such a crybaby victim. Boo hoo, poor you......just get to work and stop with the minority crap.

Well, I just had my Truck stolen early saturday morning here in Missouri, where we have the "Castle Doctorine", and if I'd seen then stealing my truck out of the Driveway, I'd definetly of Shot the suspect or Suspects stealing my Truck out of my Driveway in front of my house with 1 of 2 of my .357's or possible both of my .357's, and here where I live I'd be Legally within my Rights to do so. The suspects who stole my Truck have no ida how Lucky they are their not laying in the county morgue, this Sunday morning !

Logic problem. Man with gun follows boy with ice tea and bag of skittles. Boy is dead. Man with gun claims self defense. Which was the weapon which required the gun to be put in play, the ice tea or the bag of skittles?

CNN is still using the older pic that makes Zimmerman look scary and bad and the Martin pics of him smiling and friendly. You have other pictures of him and of this case. Why not show the more recent image of George cleaned up instead of zooming in and out on this "scary" one for the entire length of this segment. Why not run the pics of Trayvon flashing a gold grill and holding up double middle fingers? Guess that wouldn't support your sensationalized version of the story.

Trayvon had a Facebook account. Like most people, they choose a picture that represents themselves. Why doesn't CNN use that picture instead of his kiddy picture. I don't think Trayvon would've used that kiddy picture on his Facebook account. The media seems like it's part of this witch hunt.

No, Mr. Zimmerman was not perfect in his decisions/actions. Yes, he did shoot in defense. Not that i agree to carry a concealed weapon as a Neighborhood Watch Volunteer, however, what was he supposed to do when Mr. Martin, a HUGE teen, with gold teeth, in the dark, in the rain, wearing a hoodie, as a guest in the area, a suspended high school student (multiple times-including fighting)...the list goes on. what i am leading to more importantly is this: what was Zimmerman supposed to do when this large person was on top of him pummleing him? Leave his gun in the holster & let the pummling continue until he was dead instead? It's not logical...It's just not logical to say Mr. Martin is a victim here.

After leaving a restaurant after dinner one night I was followed by two men on my way back to my motel. I kept walking while pearing over my shoulder. As I walked faster they in turned walked faster. I made a plan to either run out into the intersection where my motel was or cut across a vacant lot to the motel (on the run). I chose to run because of being young and a distance runner. The point being that never did it occur to me to turn around and confront those two guys.

The prosecutor in this case played politics (she is an elected official) by not going to the grand jury and potentially having the case thrown out, then dressing up like a christmas tree and went on and on and on saying justice for Trayvon and having the parents in the room and praying with them. The charge is designed to keep the blacks from rioting and covering her ass by having it go to a jury (either way she wins). I live 1500 miles from Florida and see this in the news every night. How in the world Zimmerman gets a fair trial is beyond me.

Can't believe armstrong williams (aka-uncleT0m) has the audacity to attack Black People by trying to campare the ruthless murder of Travon Martin, to OJ Simpson being found not guilty by a jury of his peers. Ironically, the unclet0m Williams, most caucasians (not all), and hispanics ares calling for a jury of zimmermans peers to decide his guilt. The unclet0m only brought up the OJ case in order to cast a disparaging light upon Black People. Unclet0ms like armstrong williams, are who the mostly caucasian (not all) racist majority call upon as they're mouthpiece, to make racist insults on the character of Black People. If anything, the OJ Simpson case shows how a Black Person accused of a crime is immediately, if not sooner, arrested, and a caucasian-hispanic-jew (or whatever he's calling himself these day's) would never have been arrested if not for the media attention provided by Black People, Caucasian People, Hispanic People, Asian People, Native American People, and Indian (fm India) People protesting his murder and the incompetence of the Sanford, FL police department. In addition, the added pressure put on the government to step in due to the racist nature of the Sanford, Florida police department by allowing a murderer to go free by misusing a "stand your ground" law, and allowing zimmermans parent's to use they're influence as former, and current court workers.
This case didn't divide America. Most Caucasians(certainly not all), with they're "Lets Demonize a Black Person Every Chance We Get" mentality, has done that long ago. Recruiting boot-lick unclet0ms like armstrong williams, who most Black People liken to Willie Lynch and is NOT a credible representative of the Black Community. Williams is mad because NO Black Person respects him, nor do they wish to speak with him on any issue, because his views are perverted by his self-hatred. Williams hates his own big lips, dark-skin, etc... He hates all thing associated with being Black. He's an easy stool-pigeon for racist caucasians to use, plus he makes it so easy.

Zimmerman knew when he initiated that confrontation, that if things didn't go his way, he could simply shoot the opposing person in the chest. Normally, when someone picks a fight, they have to accept that there's a possibility they're gonna get beat up. Other than sport, fire arms are only to be used for self defense. Deadly force is only to be used when threatened with deadly force, when backed into a corner in your car, home, or when fleeing is not safe. It is not supposed to be used as insurance that you win any confrontation YOU start. Let's be honest, Zimmerman didn't walk up to Trayvon and say "good evening, sir". I guarantee he said/did something that made Trayvon believe he needed to fight for his life. Unless Trayvon was out to start trouble with a bag of Skittles, what other reason would he have to violently attack a normal passer-by, other than self-defense? Have you ever tried to beat the brains in of someone who walked by you on the street and said "good evening"? Even without all media misinformation, witness reports, and 9-1-1 recordings, it'll only take common sense to find Zimmerman:

    Guilty

Florida Prosecutors, I give you full permission to use my comment in your closing argument.

      Read this, http://wisefb.com/martin/doubledback.php.

"what other reason would he have to violently attack a normal passer-by" Uhh, maybe he didn't like being followed and watched? George didn't start the physical confrontation. All George was doing was following him, keeping Martin in sight until the police arrive. But Trayvon was mad, so instead of going straight him after losing George, Trayvon goes back to confront George. And then he decides to beat him up seeing that an overweight shorter dude is no match for him.

You can use a little common sense. Why would George call the police to come ASAP if he was planning on killing Trayvon?

Plain and simple, Zimmerman disobeyed a direct request from the 911 operator not to follow Trayvon had he followed that request we would not be having this conversation. I firmly beleive that this was not racially motivated and I am a black man myself, I feel that this was a guy who was trying to be something he's not...a police oficer and hero. When you are instructed to not follow someone, do it. Let the people that get paid to protect us handle the situation properly.

Another irony proving this was not racial motivated is you don't see the KKK marching in Florida...Hmmm wonder why? Wake up people, this was a tragedy and a poor boy is dead. The truth is you don't have to belong to a different race to be racist. People (of all races) tend to give blacks a pass when they make racist remarks about other blacks. This is why Herman Cain was so popular with the tea party: he made all the racist remarks that white people knew they couldn't get away with saying.

We do not need to riot. God is in charge and He is working it out. Zimmerman will not be given a free pass. Black life is as precious as life in all the other races. There is not a jury in the state of Florida that will find Zimmerman not guilty. There are many white people who are as outraged as we are. No one or no organization should be above the law period! This is a domestic terrorist act and must bring them in now! If George is guilty, then let the courts handle this, but we do not need this type of threats and we should never be tolerant of these no matter who says them!

the problem is there is racism and its time for us to focus on the problem. it is a war. but the next time you feel a comment against another race think about how you would like that person to fight for this country if needed. If we keep killing each other we will look weak. FOcus on the problem together. and before you feel the need to fight think about how we need our fellow man.

This guy was scared and shot this boy. No motivation and nothing else behind the scenes. This man was watching the neighborhood and questioned someone he was not familiar with. The boy probably smarted off to him and George said something that heightened the tension. They both locked up and the boy was beating him and George got scared and shot. George made the wrong decision to escalate the confrontation, but this was not racially motivated like most people want to make it.

We really don't know if Zimmerman ever said anything to Martin. We know from the 911 call that he didn't say anything to Martin when he went past his truck and we know that he didn't say anything to him (or for that matter even identify himself) when he was running after him and still on the line with police dispatcher. All we know is that Zimmerman leapt to the conclusion that Martin was a burglar and that he was determined not to let him get away. I bet Martin probably died without ever knowing that the skinhead hunting him down was a Neighborhood Watch person.

Why hasn't the brutal beating of the white guy in Baltimore gotten more press. The indivdual was brutly beaten by black men and a black women so where's the pulbic rage on this case?? Are we, as a society accepting racism if it's coming from a balck person?? Where's Al Sharpton and Reverend Jackson now??? It is the responsibility of blacks and whites to get along in the society and stop with the balme game. Stop using the race card. We badly need a forum that includes all racial indivduals for discussing and exploring solutions so we can live together peacefully.

      1. One person has already been ARRESTED in the Baltimore case
      2. The police are ACTIVELY WORKING to identify the rest of the people who participated in the terrible beating
      3. The wheels of JUSTICE promptly started to roll once the Baltimore incident was reported

Both incidents are unacceptable. One was potentially swept under the rug one has been acted on promptly.

What exactly do you want the Revs. Sharpton and Jackson to do here?

...because they're going after and arresting the bad people that beat him to serve justice...something that didn't happen with George Zimmerman, he was let go after 7hrs of detention without a reasonable investigation...huge difference.

Did the Black man and woman who beat the White man get arrested? You can't exactly compare someone getting a beating with someone who was murdered. The public outcry was not only from Black people. All races were enraged that Zimmerman could kill an unarmed child and go home like he was involved in a car wreck. Even people who kill animals are charged with a crime. Is a Black person's life less valuable than an animal?

Come on David, are you kidding me? There wouldn't be the same outrage because the perpetrator's of the crime in Baltimore are on video, they will be identified, caught, and brought to justice. Know one's getting away with anything in that story.
In the Travon story, there's a lot of questions about how and why a young unarmed teen died and the killer just walks away.

I don't think Trayvon Martin's mother misspoke when she said it was a tragic accident. She probably knows her son is capable of a good fight. I think they probably went after her to correct her statement. I hope she is honest enough not to let a man be sentenced to life if the whole thing was a tragic accident. I feel sorry for her but I also feel deeply sorry for George Zimmerman. I hope he has a good lawyer and will fight to save him. The whole case brings tears to my eyes.

Zimmerman followed the boy even though the police told him not to. There would have been no confrontation and no shooting if Zimmerman had done what he was told. I don't feel sorry for him; my sorrow is reserved for Trayvon Martin's family.

It wasn't an accident, George Zimmerman didn't accidentally pack a gun nor did he accidentally pursue Trayvon. GZ was acting as a vigilante at that point, not a neighborhood watch where you're just supposed to watch and not tote a gun and hunt down someone you think may be out of place because they're black and wearing a hoodie....

This is a witch hunt by the black community. This is not a complicated case – teenager gets angry for being followed so he starts beating up the night watchman. The watchman is on his back, losing badly and decides the only way out is to shoot the teenager. Why can't the black community accept that this is the most likely scenario?

Remember, MARTIN punched a bus driver not too long ago. Seems VERY likely he'd do the same to a dude questioning why he's roaming around outside. MARTIN could've gone home easily when he lost him. BUT he decides to go back and confront him. MARTIN is the agressor at that point, not to mention throwing the first punch.

I feel deeply sorry for Trayvon Martin and his family. Can you begin to imagine what it must feel like to have your child's life stolen??? Whether it's behind bars or at home, George Zimmerman still has life. Trayvon Martin will never graduate high school, go to college, have a career, get married, have children, etc.
Tragic accident or not Zimmerman must be held accountable for taking a human life.

What I am tired of is seeing the parents of Travon on every talk show I watch. You made your point now let the law take its due course. they all enjoy being on t.v. This should have been decided in a court of law not on t.v.
They are setting us all up for riots if it doesn't go their way. I lived in Detroit for 34 years. Blacks robbed and killed tortured, raped whites every day–no justice for them. Remember the Detroit riots of the late 60's? They are only promoting hate. Hispanic is a choice on your drivers liscence as is white.

A high profile case like this favors the defense. A 2nd degree murder charge has essentially handed Zimmerman an acquittal. This all sounds more like symbolism to show FL charged him but they have no intention of putting him away so they over-reached the charge to give both sides on this something to take away. Remember how much of a slam dunk this was with the Casey Anthony trial and a 3rd rate attorney...Zimmerman walks away on this. They should have gone for manslaughter if they thought they had a case.

Casey Anthony was close and shut case. Only thing against her was a smell from her trunk. No other evidence other than her behavior. Unfortunately that's not sufficient to charge someone. ie....see OJ trial. The prosecutor was brought in because the president wanted this and the charges are just for show. The police had nothing on him and they still do not have sufficient evidence. Funny, how we have eye witness testimony from news stations that say the same thing George has said. We just have some stations putting things out that are not true and had to be re-tracked, but now the public thinks it's the truth.

Chuck........George is the only one alive. He can say what ever he want to, Trayvon is gone. Why are you defending Zimmerman so much and have no compassion for the family that lost there 17 year old son? Zimmerman was not a cop, it was not his job to walk around to neighborhood with a loaded gun following a teenager. I don't understood your need to rush to his defense. He was not the child laying on the grass dieing.

And BTW you can not really believe that just because the person was balck that the media is blowing things out of proportion. The media does that with everything, period. The alone racism in this case came from Zimmerman when he assumed that a black "man" (17 years old kid) was automatically a criminal and wanted to act like he was a cop doing the neighborhood a favor.

Chuck, it seems that you are angry for all the wrong reasons. God bless us all.

Innocent!!??? George Zimmerman is in no way innocent. George Zimmerman was not fearful of Trayvon Martin. Since when does a person pursue someone they're afraid of? I believe the only reason Zimmerman left his vehicle to pursue Martin was because he had a weapon, while Martin only had snacks.

No, putting him away wil not deter other incidents like this. The reason is because this was not something that required a whole lot of thought on Zimmerman's part (so the assumption goes). He was reacting to what he felt was a "threat". He clearly overreacted, and it was a case of bad judgment – but that's the problem. Bad judgment cannot be curtailed by putting Zimmerman in jail. You put Zimmerman in jail to punish him if the facts show he committed a crime. But there is no deterrent for bad judgment or racism (if such was the case) or immaturity. To send somebody to jail is serve as a "message" has never worked because crime is often committed without ever thinking of the consequences, which means the perpetrator did not care about the "message".

No, but putting away a guilty man will certainly keep him from killing again and, perhaps it will prevent future killings by people like him whose judgment is so poor.

Putting a guilty man away will not bring back Trayvon, but charging Z-man and giving him a trial will at least give justice a fair shake. We have little other than George's word that things went as he claimed. A trial will give a better opportunity to weigh the evidence, for and against this claim. The only other eyewitness is dead. Self defense does not usually allow for pursuit of the victim, and there is little evidence Trayvon's actions warranted pursuit.

That not as bad as the continued use of only the unhappy malevolent looking Zimmerman photo but always the happy smiling Martin pictures. They have other pictures of both of them. Some show Martin looking more thug and Zimmerman less glum. But they're still trying to drill it into your heads that he's guilty without question.
