Callan: "take a closer look at Mr. Edwards statements"

A mistrial in the case against John Edwards. And for now, he's avoided a 30-year prison sentence at more than a million dollars in fines.

After almost nine days of deliberations, the jury in the federal trial told the judge they were dead-locked.

The judge sent them back in to deliberate but they could only reach a verdict on one of the six counts against him.

The former presidential candidate was on trial, accused of using campaign contributions to hide his affair with Rielle Hunter and the baby he had with her.

During his press conference, Edwards says he takes full responsibility for his actions. Defense attorney Paul Callan says "people should take a closer look at Mr. Edwards statements." Callan refers to the fact that Edwards blamed his long-time assistant, Andrew Young during the trial, because he didn't know about the expenditures.
