More than a year after its release America is still hot for "50 Shades of Grey." The trilogy, which is set in the Pacific Northwest, is about the relationship between the barely college grad, Anastasia Steele, and the too young to be a real billionaire, Christian Grey (unless he's Mark Zuckerberg).
But here's the bottom line: the trilogy is expected to sell its 20 millionth copy this week. The top 3 books on the New York Times bestseller list are these three books and 1 out of every 5 novels sold this year have been one of them. Some reports say author E.L. James is raking in about $200,000 a day.
But she's not the only one making money off this series.
Which brings us to tonight's number: 2,700.
That is the price of the "Charlie Tango No Limits" package offered by the Heathman Hotel in Portland. For that price, the hotel – made famous in the books – will recreate the main character's birthday party. Includes dinner for six, roses for the women, a limo ride and a helicopter tour of the city.
If that's too pricey for you, there are less expensive options. Three hotels in San Francisco are offering a "Shades of Women" package.
For $369, you get deluxe accomodations and a special package.
