Is Romney accountable for the Marriott's use of an abusive tax shelter? Does it add up?

The tax war continues as the fall election draws near. Two respected tax experts wrote an op-ed criticizing Romney’s personal tax strategies, saying “A key troubling public manifestation of Romney's apparent insensitivity to tax obligations is his role in Marriott International’s abusive tax shelter activity.”

Does the accusation add up? Mitt Romney was the chief of the audit committee for Marriott from 1993-1998 where he oversaw the company's tax returns. During Romney's tenure, Marriott International was accused of using a tax scheme. In court documents Marriott denied the claims. FULL POST

Avlon: Obama's 'Romney Hood' tactic is more a social-justice argument rather than an economic one

President Barack Obama on Monday added a new attack line to his arsenal - 'Romney Hood.' The President says Mitt Romney's tax proposals amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

Obama debuts 'Romney Hood'

In his latest column for The Daily Beast, John Avlon points out that President Obama's strategy exposes a problem with his own tax plan. Avlon says, Obama is making fairness the goal instead of the economics.

John Avlon is also a CNN contributor and member of the OutFront political strike team.
