Suicide or police cover-up?
That's the question surrounding the mysterious death of 21-year-old Chavis Carter. Carter died from a gunshot wound that was inflicted while he was handcuffed and seated in the back of a police car on July 29th in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Police say that Carter shot himself while being held on marijuana possession... while his wrists were cuffed behind his back. But Carter's family say that police killed him and are trying to cover it up. Today the Jonesboro Police released the dash cam video from the police car during the traffic stop that led to his death, though it shuts off before any gunshot can be heard.
Jonesboro Police are maintaining that it is possible for officers to miss a gun on a pat down during an arrest, and that it is physically possible for someone to shoot themselves while handcuffed.
OutFront tonight: Benjamin Irwin, the lawyer representing Carter's family.
