Huntsman: Protests are an opportunity for Romney to step it up

Former Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Ambassador to China, Jon Huntsman, weighed in on Mitt Romney’s response to the turmoil in the Arab Spring on Friday.

“I don’t know what Gov. Romney is proposing at this point,” said Huntsman on MSNBC’S Morning Joe, when asked to comment how President Barack Obama will handle the uprisings, compared to Mitt Romney’s proposals.

Romney adviser blames Obama for Libya, Egypt attacks

The wave of anti-American protests against an amateur movie that mocked the Islamic prophet Muhammad continues to spread through the Middle East; with angry dissidents demonstrating from Tunisia to Jerusalem.

Romney released a statement on Tuesday calling Obama’s handling of the Libya and Egypt attacks as “disgraceful.” He accused the administration of appearing to be sympathetic to the perpetrators of the attacks against U.S. compounds in Cairo and Benghazi, where 4 Americans were killed, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

Remembering Ambassador Stevens

Huntsman believes Romney should have taken more of an initiative to show voters his agenda for the Middle East.

“I thought this was a perfect opportunity for the Romney campaign to step up, and begin, not through immediate criticism, but begin to articulate their vision for the Middle East, in terms of how we begin putting some of these pieces back together again. That’s what the American people want to hear. I think they’ve heard enough of the finger-pointing, the criticisms, the anger,” said Huntsman..

A lost opportunity for Mitt to appear as a true statesman. His reaction,to such an outrageous attack to our country, may lead to a large loss of support amongst independents.

Huntsman was the only responsible adult running in the GOP primary. But, alas, he is far too level-headed, reasonable and intellectual for today's GOP. He didn't have a snowball's chance in the party now run by Tea Party thugs.

      Paul,
You are so right. The only candidate that has made any sense, and the GOP ignored his centrist ideas and intelligence. Furthermore, in spite of the fact I'm a Democrat, Huntsman is the only candidate on either side who has called for immediate withdrawal of the troops from Afghanistan. His wise views have fallen on very deaf ears, and the tragedies of Afghani police shooting at American soldiers could have been avoided.

As a moderate, I would definitely seriously consider a reasonable, intelligent conservative of good moral integrity. I think Huntsman comes close to that. But they discarded him right away. What's happened to the GOP? GW Bush, Cheney, Palin, Nixon, Agnew, Cain, Perry, Romney, Ryan, O'Donnel, Quayle - they're either incompetents, hypercritical chickenhawks, sociopaths or all of the above!

I have never seen such a poorly run campaign as Romney's It seems that he is not really interested in becoming president, but just going through the motions. The republicans talk about leadership; what kind of leadership would run a convention like the R's had in Tampa. It was a disaster. The only memorable moment was an old guy talking to a chair.

-I'll have you know that, "(T)hat old guy talking to the chair." was none other than the former Mayor elect of Carmel California...the legendary gunslinger himself! And by the way, Romney is a wiener and a dick...head. Says, the cartoon fellows that look like they're all squeezed 'the life out of'...whom are from MTV and love rock'n roll....You know those two...well, they are very opinionated and I find there comment here on Romney precise.

Huntsman or Gingrich would have been far superior candidates than Mitt "the Man from Glad" Romney, but hey ... you have to admit that sillly or shortcighted as he may be, ROMNEY NEVERTHELESS DOES LOOK GREAT IN THAT CAYMAN ISLAND TAN EH!
