Voters in Colorado are set to decide whether or not to allow small quantities of marijuana can be sold and taxed.
CNN Contributor John Avlon is in Colorado with the story.
"Don't you want to talk about substantive issues... like the economy... the economy... the economy..." Ah Mitt, only he could ignore the civil war in Mexico and the overcrowded prisons caused by illegal weed and call this an unsubstantial issue.
It may come down to the cost to society. By legalizing Marijuana and taxing it like alcohol you can regulate it and ensure quality and purity. We are spending an enormous amount of money on the failed drug war where as legalizing it you get revenue from taxes. By legalizing pot you also reduce jail over crowding and save tax dollars which some can be used for treament and education. Also, you take away the black market and hopefully reduce drug violence. There is no simple solution and both options come with risk and reward.
legalize it tax the HELL out of it and fix this god damn country!!
Any person who drinks alcohol and has a problem with me smoking a doob doesn't deserve the time of day in my opinion.
Hey Joe you just wrote my personal pet peeve...It especially irks me when people refer to pot as doing "drugs" and Alcohol, a known drug is not doing "drugs". Let me smoke as a non-criminal!!!!
Every one makes this more complicated than it needs to be. Start simple. Make it legal to grow your own for personal use and make possession legal. Selling is a different story that can be dealt with down the line.
PS: Good one Bobbert!
I don't smoke, but totally support it. It does not harm others, and this is the land of the free, right?
When are we going to realize that you can not legislate morals. Legalize pot and tax the hell out of it. We could use the money.
Marijuana often makes people violent and irrational and they can easily overdose and die. (wait.. no thats alcohol)
Marijuana is addictive and 443,000 people die from its effects per year (wait... no thats tobacco)
Marijuana is toxic in large amounts and over 400 people overdose and die per year (wait... no thats Tylenol)
Marijuana is incapable of producing deadly toxic effects and proven to reduce aggression and depression... (there we go)
Marijuana is capible of producing deadly toxic effects but the amount that would be needed to kill someone is huge, like ingesting 32lbs, or by smoking 1,500lbs in a short time period.
Yes...but it scares people....
