New Delhi gang rape attack 'didn't surprise me, it disgusted me,' says Padma Lakshmi

For decades sexual violence against women in India has gone unreported and even when an arrest is made, India's national crime bureau says just 26% of the rape cases end with a conviction.

The brutal gang rape and murder of a 23 year-old woman in New Delhi last month has sparked international outrage and women everywhere are hoping its a catalyst for change.

Among them is Padma Lakshmi. The author and host of "Top Chef" was born in India and still has family there. Lakshmi comes OutFront with Erin Burnett.

Tune to Erin Burnett OutFront at 7p and 11p ET on CNN.

I certainly agreed with most of what Padma Lakshmi said in her interview with Erin Burnett- however her statement that the Indan language Hindi does not have a word for 'rape' is completely incorrect and flawed. I think she has been away from India too long and too distant- it would have been ok if she was not aware of it- but there most certainly is a word and to openly say something that is blatantly incorrect based on her complete ignorance somehow portrays a very flawed picture. So Erin to set the record straight there is indeed a word and description that exists in Hindi for the heinous act. Please acknowledge and correct that
