South African Police Commissioner stands by lead detective booted in Pistorius case

The prosecution's key witness and the lead investigator in the Oscar Pistorius murder case is now off the case after it was revealed Detective Hilton Botha is facing seven counts of attempted murder for an incident that occurred in 2011.

Detective Hilton Botha's removal is just another blow to the prosecution, unraveling just hours after what some are saying was Botha's muddled and confusing testimony.

Erin Burnett talked to the South African police commissioner about the removal of Botha and her thoughts on how he handled the case.

ERIN BURNETT: What is the bottom line in terms of your view Commissioner of  Hilton Botha performance. Did he do a good job?

SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE COMMISSIONER RIAH PHIYEGA: I say to you that the courts will judge, but I want to say to you once more and I will repeat it for the record and for your viewers. Botha is a very good investigator. And Botha did his job. And he's got 22 years of experience and I think he presented the case of the police well in court.
