Since being tapped to lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics, Pope Francis has made an effort to appear different then his predecessors.
Francis turned away the official Vatican limo for a more basic car - a Volkswagen He's staying in a guest house instead of moving into the grand papal apartment.
He chose a ring made of silver that was coated in gold – rather than a ring made of gold.
And Francis went to a juvenile detention center in Rome Thursday, where he washed the feet of a dozen young inmates both men and women.
Previous popes usually just washed the feet of priests, who you know can only be men, as a way to re-enact Jesus dressing up as a servant to wash the feet of his disciples.

I learned something from the interview and knowing what a big thought it is for people to see Catholics and their leaders in a positive light it was important. I know some that saw what happened in Honduras as largely from moving away from the church and middle class support for democracy and it doesnt seem so odd that many of the killings that have resulted were of LGBT and pro democracy human rights leaders. It may be a bit of a heavy journalism thing but for some the idea that human rights is a central tenet of the church is a rvelation and that hurting the church which ever one people choose actually set back many human rights movements around the world. I guess I just thought it was impressive and after reading some of the background stuff, healthcare was not a political campaign issue to lose at court and carry on in a campaign, much as now marriage equality no matter its political support is not just a campaign issue but a right that needs protection in the law. So women and muslims and human rights are important and more important than divisive campaign rhetoric I will take that as a an important prayer for humanity.
