Officials: Boston bombing suspects planned to attack Times Square

Officials say the surviving bomb suspect and his brother planned an attack in Times Square.

"Last night we were informed by the FBI that the surviving attacker revealed that New York City was next on their list of targets, " New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly  also said the suspects apparently came up with the plan spontaneously after the Boston bombings, as they talked in an SUV they hijacked.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev initially told authorities that he and his brother, Tamerlan, had talked about going to New York City to "party." Further questioning by investigators revealed that they were planning to use their remaining explosives  in Times Square.

Erin Burnett is live at 7pm ET on CNN from Times Square with the latest.

I'm usually pretty laissez-faire about drones & waterboarding & all that Zero Dark Cheney stuff, but when you start suspending Miranda rights, there's a big risk of having to throw out a case on a guilty party over standard crim pro, so I was pretty shocked to see so many people advocating for going that route.

On another subject, man I miss New York. Even if breakfast at Sweet Melissa's in Atlanta is way better than Juniors on West 45th & Broadway, and even if Penn Station & the subway was a hellish way to have to commute to work everyday, there was still Lombardi's + the cultural festival on the Avenue of the Americas + the great Indian restaurants at 6th St & 2nd Ave + all the museums and culture and the fact that you hear a different language being spoken every day.
