Paula Dean gets canned.
After the celebrity chef confessed to using the N-word years ago - the Food Network released a statement saying it, "will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month."
That blow coming just minutes after the celebrity chef released not one but three videos to say she was sorry.
This is the first video:
Dean quickly replaced it with this apology:
OutFront tonight: Comedians Stephanie Miller and Dean Obeidallah and syndicated talk radio host Michael Medved.
Just curious why no African American's (people directly affected by the racist comment) were invited to give an opinion here. Also curious why the Food Network is being questioned on making a decision not to have their network associated with people that think this way?
This story reminds me of something that happened in 1995. N-word. Shmin word! Does anyone remember a black man named OJ Simpson? F. Lee Bailey to Mark Fuhrman: Did you ever use the N-word? No? You never used the n-word? Well, that little exchange set a murderer free. Of course, it came out that Mark Fuhrman had written a screen play which he dictated and was on cassette tapes which was littered with the n-word. Horrors! How could the n-word ever pass the lips of a civilized man. So the jury had to discount everything that Mark Fuhrman had testified to and a murderer was set free. Nothing has changed in the past 17 years. This time it only cost a woman her jiob. At least no murderers were set free.
I used to have respect for the Food Network, and thought "wow, this must be a very tight knit group of Employers and Employees". I, a former chef myself used to dream of working for a company like the Food Network and now " I see your true colors and that's why I will not be supporting you with my viewership anymore". I strongly agree that Paula Deen did not deserve this kind of treatment and will be greatly missed by all of us who loved to watch her cook delicious recipes and her playful uplifting spirit that she brought to the rather boring lineup that the the Food Network has. Somebody smart and not a coward like her former employer The Food Network, will for sure pick her up and back her for her own cooking show.I am pretty confident that this will not be the last we see of this wonderful person and cook. ( Paula if you ever see this comment just know one thing. You did not lose a good job with the Food Network but the Food Network lost a GREAT job with you when they decided to let you slip from their greedy, cowardly, lifeless hands"
PS... I wouldn't take the job back even if they came crawling on their knees... now you know who you are working for after 12 YRs of creative, inspirational and hard work...
I think we should all lose our contracts, we all, plus the people who fired Paula are guilty of this racist problem. Even the black use the n word which should not be used, it is a double stanard
Everyone that is chastising Paula Dean is a bunch of hypocrites. Its the same people that idolizes someone like Ray Lewis or O.J.or the rappers that use the N word in their music all the time, but let a southern woman say the wrong thing and regret it and we act like she is Hitler.
