Al Qaeda threat leads U.S. to issue global travel alert, embassies to close

CNN has learned that al Qaeda is in the final stages of planning an attack.

What's behind timing of terror threat

The threat comes from Yemen. The State Department has issued a global travel alert to U.S. citizens abroad and plans to shut down 21 U.S. embassies and consulates in the Middle East and North Africa on Sunday, August 4th.
