Schmidt: Google's new phone will help company pass iPhone

Google CEO Eric Schmidt says the release of the company's new cell phone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, will close the technology gap with Apple and its iPhone. "It's more secure, it's faster" than iPhone, Schmidt told CNN's Erin Burnett. "Today the iPhone has more applications, but we're quickly surpassing them."

The new phone goes on sale Thursday–the same day Erin Burnett OutFront airs an extended interview with Schmidt. It's the first time a news program has toured the Google offices in New York. The interview airs on CNN at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.
