Another day, another zombie – two more cases of cannibalistic behavior linked to the dangerous drugs known as "bath salts" have been reported this week.
In Florida, 21-year-old Brandon Deleon tried to bite a police officer in a drug-fueled rage, and in Louisiana, 43-year-old Carl Jacquneaux attacked another man and bit his face. Police suspect that bath salts were involved in both cases, which come on the heels of the gruesome incident in Miami last week where Rudy Eugene chewed the face off of a homeless man.
But now it appears the problem could be spreading to the military – The Marine Corps Times is reporting that the use of bath salts is on the rise among service members. HLN's Dr. Drew discusses.
Seriously?! Way back in the Wild West days of the 70's when I was in the Army, we all took pride in being stoned most of the time, but we had a term for people who did garbage drugs like this-we called 'em "trash heads", as in the kind of person who'd shoot peanut butter if they thought it would get a reaction. I've been more or less straight-edge for the last 30 years, but I'm continually amazed at how low the bar keeps getting set these days-I guess when weak bands like Maroon 5 are considered edgy and hip you've got to expect stuff like this...
I'm a Clinical Social Worker and work as part of a mobile crisis team responding to mental health calls from area hospitals; for the past year I have increasingly encountered psychotic patients who are using "Bath Salts". This is a scary and extremely dangerous drug that we do not know enough about. Thank you CNN for talking about it on the air and warning the general public.
