Merchants of Death: International arms dealers operating in global conflict zones

The head of Conflict Awareness Project, an international non-governmental organization said Tuesday that the Justice Department is considering the possibility of extraditing convicted international arms dealer, Viktor Bout to Russia.

Bout also known as "The Merchant of Death" was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

OutFront tonight: Kathi Austin, executive director of the Conflict Awareness Project. Austin met with members of the United Nations today and is calling for the UN to not only focus on the top arms dealers, but the middle men.

Conflict Awareness Project Press Release:

Many actors involved in this network had a connection to Viktor Bout and are back in the game of shipping arms to war zones,” said Kathi Lynn Austin who led the investigation. “These brokers go to extreme lengths to reap profits from conflict, atrocity and UN sanctions-busting.  They flip companies, corrupt officials, and bust blacklists.  As we speak, gunrunners are out there exploiting every loophole in a global arms trade that is out of control.”
