The people on the Rockaway peninsula are a close-knit community where local churches are often a gathering spot. But many churches were destroyed like St. John Baptist church.

Congress 'optimistic' about a deal to avert fiscal cliff: "This is truly the magic moment," says Erskine Bowles

Members of both parties claim to be optimistic about a deal to avert the 'fiscal cliff.' Americans faces expiring tax cuts and across-the-board spending cuts at the end of the year. With 50 days for Congress to work out a deal, neither side has been very specific on a plan to avoid falling off the fiscal cliff.

President Barack Obama is expected to hold meetings with labor leaders, business leaders and key members of the Democrat and Republican party this week.

The woman behind Petraeus' resignation: Who is Paula Broadwell?

There are growing questions about Paula Broadwell, the woman behind the resignation of General David Petraeus.  Did the 40-year-old biographer to Petraeus have access to classified information during her affair with the now former CIA Director.

CNN has learned the affair started two months after Petraeus took over the CIA, which was back in September of 2011, and ended about four months ago.
