2016 Prospects Take On Gun Control: Md. Gov. backs tough gun laws

Fingerprinting gun owners? It's one of the sweeping proposals to crack down on gun violence by Maryland's Governor Martin O'Malley.

His plans for Gun Control also include:

  • Banning assault weapons and high-capacity gun magazines
  • Requiring gun-safety courses and background checks

These proposals go further than his fellow Democratic governors have been willing to go. Maryland House Minority Leader Anthony O'Donnell - a Republican - tells The Washington Post:

"The reality is Martin O'Malley is trying to get to the left of Cuomo in New York because he wants to run for president in 2016," O'Donnell said.
