Senator Rand Paul declares victory in filibuster; Brennan confirmed

After a filibuster that lasted 12-hours, 52 minutes and 11 seconds, the man who staged the "rand-page" finally got the answer he wanted from the White House.

"Does the president have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil? The answer is no," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

In return, the White House got what it wanted. John Brennan was confirmed Thursday as CIA Director in a 63 – 34 vote in the Senate. It was Brennan's nomination that Paul was holding up with his filibuster.

Paul: America is not a battlefield

But not everyone in Senator Paul's own party is celebrating his win.

"All II can say is I don"t think that what happened yesterday is helpful to the American people," Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) joins Erin Burnett OutFront.

If we the USA KNEW a group of Americans were in a car driving to their target in the USA I think I would want to get them in some way. Screw them if they are americans-they aren't anymore as far as I'm concerned. Maybe we need to be more like Israel bomb first and ask n questions later. But they also end up killing the terrorists entire family. so its not such a great idea. but killing timothy mc vey on his way to the morrow building would have been ok by me. We just don't think of terrorists as white, fundamentalist Christian, x-solder, American.

This is the same Senator that was troubled by the fake story that Haggle took money from the made up group "friends of Hamas". If it is true we get the government we deserve, we must have done something realy bad to end up with this pitiful crowd. Simpleton, does he want to buy a bridge?

This is just a symptom of a greater problem in congress. The idea of a "moderate". There are no moderates in congress, only the Tea Party, the Leftist Liberals, and the pro-corporate congressmen who have been bought off by special interests.
Rand could be the peoples choice but the people don't really run congress now do they?
Money rules the roost and as long as big oil, big insurance, big finance, big pharma exist, people like Rand Paul will be able to do very little to reform Congress.

GOOOO!!! Mr Paul, though some here have NO problem using a drone on an American in America, the fact they kept dodging around a straight question is SCAREY, to say the least!!

Rand Paul is just another whacked out TP'er (the "TP" stands for "toilet paper").

This is not exactly how I saw the whole Bull Moose 2.0 thing playing out. I'd have hoped it'd be someone like Bloomberg or a Northeastern Republican like Christie who'd stake out the claim. Nonetheless, like him or not this guy seems to have a legitimate shot at resurrecting the Barry Goldwater libertarianism that sort of brought the fringes together back in the day. I'll still roll w. the Clintons till I die, but some variety in the political landscape has got to be a good thing.

P.S. Also worth remembering the Haines Bottom, almost 4 years ago today. Besides maybe the Nightly Business Report and Josh "Reformed Broker" Brown, not a lot of folks left holding the candle of investor protection left these days.

The "civil liberties hero" Rand Paul cares so much about the American people that he's going to drone himself for supporting all the tea party extremists he supported through the last four years of campaigning. For example, like the ones who said Gays and Lesbians should be put in concentration camps, and Hispanics should be electrocuted at the border, like the ones who have fillibustered the GI bill to exten the Bush era tax cuts for the rich, like the ones who have called for a civil war if our President is re-elected, like the ones who applauded the deadly school shooting in Connecticut and defended the "the rights" of criminals to have access to guns and ammo, like the one who put Cross Hairs on a map of Congress woman Giffords district for the domestic terrorist group, the teabags, inspiring the deadly Tucson shootings, like the ones who have violated the Voter Right Act and suppressed the votes of Americans to influence the outcome of the last election, like the ones who have waged a gender war on women ("legitimate rape is God's will, etc), like the ones who have fillibustered every infrastructure and jobs bill to help unemployed and struggling Americans get back on their feet, like the ones who have fillibustered an increase in the minimum wage and equal pay for equal work, like the ones who accused President Obama of "violating the sosereignty of a foreign nation" to get Osama Bin Laden, like the ones who have stripped the middle class of their collective bargaining rights, pensions and promotions they've earned, like the the ones who have stripped the poor of the only safety net that they have. Yea, "the civil liberties hero" Rand Paul is an American hero NOT.

    Dear Mr. Rand Paul,

You have questioned whether the President can authorize the use of drones to attack Americancivilian not involved in terrorism on American soil. The answer is NO.

Signed-------–well, Sir Paul, see as Attorney General, I have more important things to do than to answer silly right wing questions southern BOY. So I had my secretary sign my name with an auto pen. Well, actually it was an intern.

Hey "civil liberties hero" Rand Paul, so when are you going to set up a congressional task force to drone, I mean investigate the cold blooded murder of 4,000 of our troops in Iraq by GWB and the GOP???

Rarely do you see the Tea Party & Code Pink on the same page on ANY issue. It's interesting that foreign policy & national security are some of the only issues left that don't cut neatly across party lines. I remember a couple years ago an issue concerning Afghanistan where you saw McCain & Graham supporting the President, while Kucinich & Bachmann were opposing him.

Kudos to Erin for exposing this drama king –it was all self serving and I am glad McCain and Grahmn weighed in on this upstart. Cruz is another grand stander that needs to be exposed. These clowns are all about show boating and not doing the people business. Ron Paul ought to take hime out to the wood shed and tell him that he expects more from this guy than what he has delivered to date
