Gaza rockets hit Israeli town during Obama visit: "We condemn violence," says PLO representative

Two rockets were launched from the Palestinian controlled Gaza strip into southern Israel Thursday just hours before President Obama visited the West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

A hard-line group that operates in Gaza claimed responsibility for the rockets, posting a statement online today which said: "Shelling Stairoht by rocket bombardment in response to the visit by Obama, the West's dog."

Erin Burnett spoke with Maen Areikat, the chief representative of the general delegation of the Palestine Liberation Organization to the United States.

Areikat told Burnett the meeting between Abbas and Obama went well. He called it a significant visit and said the two presidents had the opportunity to discuss a variety of issues.

One of those issues – the rocket attack.

"We saw the continuing threat from Gaza again overnight, with the rockets that targeted Sderot." Obama added, "We condemn this violation of the important cease- fire that protects both Israelis and Palestinians - a violation that Hamas has a responsibility to prevent."

Gaza is, of course, controlled by Hamas, not the Palestinian Authority. But the two groups are working towards the same goal of a Palestinian state.

Burnett asked Areikat whether he condemns the attack.
