Obama renews call to close Gitmo

President Obama delivered what was billed as his first major speech on counterterrorism in his second term. We were prepared to hear him lay out his policy on drone strikes and we were prepared to hear him discuss his long-time promise to close the military detention  facilities at Guantanamo Bay.

His speech was interrupted by a protester who loudly advocated for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison – the same position Obama was stressing in his speech.

Obama heckled by Code Pink leader

"You are commander-in-chief – you can close Guantanamo today," Medea Benjamin, activist and co-founder of Code pink shouted during a portion of Obama's speech in which the president outlined changes in policy that included an all-out push to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba. She later yelled, "It's been 11 years!"

One day after taking office, January 22, 2009, President Obama signed an executive order to close Guantanamo Bay within a year. He reiterated that promise throughout his time in office.

Why is the facility still open?

OutFront tonight: Chris Lawrence, who recently traveled to the detention facility.

Hung jury in Jodi Arias penalty phase

An Arizona jury said it was unable to reach a unanimous agreement on what penalty Jodi Arias should receive for killing her ex-boyfriend.

The hung jury forced the judge to declare a mistrial in the sentencing phase of the case after nearly 14 hours of deliberations.

Arias was convicted of the 2008 murder of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander after a trial that lasted almost five months. If the prosecution decides to retry the sentencing phase of the case, a new jury will be asked to decide Arias' fate.

Plaza Towers students reunite with teachers

The first funeral was held Thursday morning for the youngest victims of Monday's deadly tornado.

Nine-year-old Antonia Candelaria was remembered as a "beautiful young lady" who had the "sweetest, most gentle and loving spirit."

She was one of seven children who died at the Plaza Towers Elementary School.

A school that has become one of the emotional focal points of the tornado.
And today - that school community came together as students were reunited with the teachers who saved their lives.

Our Ed Lavandera is OutFront with today's reunion.
