NEW WORD ORDER: Is John Boehner a SPINO?

Language is power and when someone invents or uses a new word gaining power, we recognize it.

In today’s column about the shutdown showdown, The New York Times’ Thomas L. Friedman wrote this:

“Cruz and his Tea Party allies would be calling the shots, and Boehner would become that very rare bird — a SPINO (a Speaker in Name Only).”

The term has been used a few times before and it will be interesting to see if it catches on because another short-hand for the phrase has been tried.

Previously columnists and broadcasters have tried to introduce SINO (with no p) as an acronym to describe John Boehner and a handful of ineffective state speakers, however, it has never become part of the popular lexicon the way that, say, RINO has.

RINO (Republican In Name Only) has, in the past couple decades, become increasingly prevalent in Washington, leveled against a number of people, including Mitch McConnell, John McCain and, yes, even John Boehner.

The U.S. government has hundreds of acronyms they like to use, some popular (POTUS, SCOTUS) and some less-known ones (CODELS, GOCO).

What’s your favorite government acronym?  Can you think of a new shorthand or phrase that perfectly defines our times? Is John Boehner a SPINO?

Who do you consider a RINO, a DINO or a WINO?  Let us know in the comment space below.

Yous show got it wrong about military golf courses. First, military golf course must be self-sufficient thru green fee and membership dues each year, rental carts and green fees. Money for golf courses are funded thru non appropriated funds (no tax dollars I repeat no tax dollars are used to running military golf courses. Contact (MWR- Moral,Welfare and Recreation) at the Pentagon they will set you poor reporting straight and I invited you to coming Fort Lee< VA and let me show you and see for yourself that non-appropriated funds not government taxpayer funds are used. Get it right . We who serve or have served pay for playing military golf courses and have been doing for 43 years

Speaker Boehner has become a hapless puppet of the Tea Party. Let's face it; since there is obviously a great divide in the GOP, the Tea Party should simply break off and form its own political party and stop hijacking the GOP.
As for Speaker Boehner, he needs to come to a decision on where his loyalties rest:
Should he continue to be manipulated by the Tea Party?
Should he represent the people who put him into office?
But above all, Speaker Boehner needs to stop trying to keep his job, and DO his job. Stop blaming the "other" party. Stop blaming the media. Stop blaming period and just fix the problem.
