The Los Angeles Times reports Obamacare enrollment in Kentucky is outpacing estimates.
Senator Rand Paul is OutFront with his take on the Obamacare enrollment numbers.
how long does moderation take here??/
I find it disturbing that I see more and more senators try to tell you WHAT will happen???? are they really on soothsayers and charlatans? seems like this is more bla bla bla bla bla
If you are 24, you do not have to buy a complete plan... You CAN buy a catastrophic plan.
"I talked to Denis Cortese, the C.E.O. of the Mayo Clinic, which is among the highest-quality, lowest-cost health-care systems in the country. A couple of years ago, I spent several days there as a visiting surgeon. Among the things that stand out from that visit was how much time the doctors spent with patients. There was no churn—no shuttling patients in and out of rooms while the doctor bounces from one to the other... Decades ago Mayo recognized that the first thing it needed to do was eliminate the financial barriers. It pooled all the money the doctors and the hospital system received and began paying everyone a salary, so that the doctors’ goal in patient care couldn’t be increasing their income.
The Mayo Clinic is not an aberration. One of the lowest-cost markets in the country is Grand Junction, Colorado... Unlike doctors at the Mayo Clinic, he told me, those in Grand Junction get piecework fees from insurers. But years ago the doctors agreed among themselves to a system that paid them a similar fee whether they saw Medicare, Medicaid, or private-insurance patients, so that there would be little incentive to cherry-pick patients. They also agreed, at the behest of the main health plan in town, an H.M.O., to meet regularly on small peer-review committees to go over their patient charts together. They focused on rooting out problems like poor prevention practices, unnecessary back operations, and unusual hospital-complication rates. Problems went down. Quality went up."
(Gawande, "The Cost Conundrum," The New Yorker, June 2009)
then why is it that many Mayo Hospitals no longer take medicare..?
I think it's worth pointing out that just because you don't have insurance the medical service providers are not so quick to excuse your debt. Caught in between jobs once I threw a kidney stone while on an interview trip 900 miles from home. An overnight stay in the hospital and all the tests they could run (you're hardly in a position to refuse) cost $7,000. And that was when 7Gs was large money. It took me six years to pay it off. They were never slow to threaten me with collection. An irony is that without the bargaining power of an insurance company, it's the uninsured that wind up paying more for services.
Also, Erin spoke of people with no insurance free loading off the rest of us..... What fraction of the population can afford insurance but chooses not to buy? Pretty small I expect.
good point. its not the people with insurance that are the problem – and their "bad plans" its people with no coverage at all
Rand Paul on Obama care. I just listened to part of Rand Paul"s interview with Erin Burnett. It is going to happen just like S.S. did. and people like you Rand will become more unpopular by the day. So Dr. Paul, I am a hard working business person that lost my Insurance through no fault of my own and the Hospital E R that I had to go to a few years ago absorbed that cost. Anyway I guess if I get cancer or I need a specialist for something I will just die under people like you. Thank goodness for our President and Obama care. Nothing will stop me from signing up..
did you hear the tesimoney in Congress – when asked how much of the web site desing was still let to do – 60-70%!!!
and its not secure
Ted, How do you know it is not secure? Because the republicans said so. If it isn't, then nothing is secure on the internet. Its all fear based coming from the republicans. So you shouldn't shop on the internet because your credit card # could get stolen.
Rand Paul is correct in saying that being forced, mandated, etc. to purchase Obama who doesn't Care insurance is another loss of our freedom under the Obama Realm. The IRS situation, The Census Bureau rigging the election with false figures one month before the election, the Bengazi affair where Obama might have been sleeping in his bed while our ambasador was being killed because he had to go fund raising the next day. The LIE about you can keep your insurance and keep your doctor and insurance cost will be lower. How can we believe this president and his ideology?
good points. and then there is the lie about the COST of the ACA – remember in the debates Obama said the average American would "save" ovr $2,500 a year on insurance coverage – LOL. the reality is millions will have higher premiums and have more out of pocket "deductable" expenses. In fact since some plans only cover 60% of ecpences the argument that the young need this for very expensive care is meaningless.....
I want to comment on Mr Paul stating that ACA mandates coverage and we should have choices. The last I check on my choices for Health Care from my employer I had 4 choices or less to choose from..So how many choices do most employers offer for Health Coverage?
at least a few – 2 -3. the issue is that the new plans will cost – all of them. even the onns with higher prices and higher deductables
Erin, you asked Rand Paul about people paying for uninsured to go to hospital emergency room for care and how that is an expensive prospect. If those costs were ALREADY in our rates, why are everyone's rates going up under obamacare............mine by 40%, deductible from 500 to 1500, and out of pocket doubled. It is to fund the Huge government organization that it now takes to manage this law.
those costs are in our rates now but the ACA goes much further. People will get a LOT more than emerengcy room care and that will cost lots of $$ and someone has to pay for that.
and yes part of it is the 57 new government agencies thet were created to run the ACA
I get the freedom of choice argument but I have a number of questions which I believe you guys are not pressing the lawmakers on
1. We mandate 3rd party insurance on cars, why is that okay but not a mandate on buying insurance
2. We mandate seat belts
3. We mandate food safety standards
4. We mandate car seats for babies
5. We mandate the legal age for drinking
I could go on and on but what's the point, clearly opponents of Healthcare reform have already made up their minds. The simple answer to America's war is a single payer system period. The argument that you should buy what you want goes against the entire concept of insurance, you have no idea what accidents you will have so the best way to cover yourself is the maximum coverage possible.
single payer is beyond the ACA (than god) because that would be an utter disaster – imaging the "government" that cannot even get the web site right providing all healthcare – LOL no thanks
Ted, I lived in UK and Canada, also had a good run in Africa. I would rather take my time waiting for a specialist than die because I have no access to any Doctor. The only system that I saw which is similar to the one in the US is in Zimbabwe. The rich have private care and the poor are treated in the emergency room then sent home even when they are still ill. If the current system is not good then why not try to give another system a go. Obama care may not be the best but there is no way to know when it's not given a chance to try
A lot of Republicans forget most First World countries have a government sponsored health care plan. I do not understand why this is so hard for the Right to accept.
and they also limit care. for non emergency procedures in Canada you wait at least 18 WEEKS and that is after you wait to see the specilaist...
we have government run healthcare in the US – its called the VA – anyone want to be part of that mess?
and then lets talk about tort reform – a feature of all other systems – what can't "the left" get that done......
Are you kidding me? DOUBLE TALK-Why cant he admit that some of the U.S Citizens in his state now have QUALITY HEALTHCARE? Ill tell you why--BECAUSE HE CARES MORE ABOUT BEING RE-ELECTED THAN THE WELL BEING OF THOSE WHO ELECTED HIM!!! He was one of the first to destroy ACA-if ACA is successful, he will LOSE! Why cant he care more about the PEOPLE than his POLITICAL CAREER.
well not really – there are Democrats now up for reelection that are voting to allow people to keep their plans – which if a lot of people do will destroy the ACA since they are the ones who have to pay more for the system to work....
