A Virginia state senator was brutally stabbed in his home Tuesday morning.
Creigh Deeds, a former Democratic candidate for governor was found with multiple stab wounds to his head and torso.
Investigators say his son Austin, "Gus" Deeds stabbed him and then took his own life.
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, Gus Deeds was having mental health issues and was given an evaluation Monday, but was released because there weren't enough beds to keep him.
Police are investigating the case as an attempted murder-suicide.
