'The world has to wake up, the United States has to wake up'

On Wednesday evening, Erin Burnett welcomed Maen Areikat, asking the Chief P.L.O. Representative to the U.S. for his assessment of the ongoing unrest between Israel and Hamas.

Thus far, it seems Israel will not back down as long as rockets continue to be launched in its direction. So, Burnett asks her guest, “what is being done to stop Hamas from firing more rockets?”

According to Areikat, “Israel has a habit of lying,” and “the world has to wake up.”

He goes on to state that the U.N. has proof that the shells recently fired at a U.N. school were Israeli.

Erin asks if Hamas should be blamed for incidents like these due to their use of civilian structures for weapon storage. While Areikat agrees that this is a violation of U.N. sanctity, he finds Israel’s action inexcusable, and furthermore condemns America's loyalty to Israel in the crisis:

“It is shameful that the United States is resupplying ammunition to a country that is committing right now war crimes.”

Watch the above video for the full interview between Areikat and Burnett.

As long as rich American Jews buy-off (by paying for campaigns, etc) American politicians on behalf of Israel, things will not change.

It looks like CNN (and other major world press organisations) have lost their integrity, what happened to unbiased, factual, unemotional reporting? In the old days, true professionals would practice their craft in the true sense of the word. However, nowadays it is politically correct to pander to the ignorant masses with subective, emotional tirades and incessant repeating of their own emotional involvement. I now seriously question the truth and facts dished up to us by the majority of the news organisations "informing" us today's world – is there still anybody out there who is a TRUE JOURNALIST??!!

Unfortunately, all news networks are owned by corporations and the truth is what they say it is, at least that is what they believe and want everyone to believe.

They admit that the schools are being used to store rocket shells, but they want us to believe that Israel is lying when they say that they are just returning fire? "Yes, Hamas stored shells there, but they didn't shoot the rockets from there. That's just Israel making up a lie to cover their intentional act of attacking our schools and kiling civilians." Sorry, buddy, I just don't buy it. It seems very clear to me that Hamas intentionally puts the civilians at risk to provoke a military response so that they can parade the dead and injured on TV and talk about how "horrible the evil state of Israel is". It's a blatant attempt to turn the world's support away from Israel. They get really angry when the American public doesn't fall for it. Sorry dude – I have a brain. You call me a fool to believe Israel's lies. I think I'm pretty smart not to fall for yours.

Smart reply – thank goodness there are more of your ilk on this earth, otherwise we would all have been duped by the so-called press who are, in my opinion, subjective, emotional and not checking their facts correctly. They are making themselves guilty of reporting a fraud because, in their stupidity, they are trying to be either "politically correct", seeking sensation, or just plain dumb!!

Why does Israel get singled out for your wrath? I don't support everything that Israel does but Arabs seem to be far more of a threat to Arabs than the Israelis. If you feel that Israel is so intolerant, go to Tel Aviv and tell them. No one will kill you for speaking your mind. On the other hand, don't try going to Saudi Arabia and doing something foolish like teaching a woman to drive.

I totally agree with you – I am amazed at all these "knowledgeable" people who mouth off about Israel (totally oblivious to what is happening all over the region), but I've come to the conclusion that the world is 80% ignorant, 20% intelligent – the press falling in the latter category!

So...European nations at the end of WWII took this land away from the Palestinians and put the most politically extremist Jews there, and your answer is...the people who were ALREADY LIVING THERE should just shut up and not want it BACK?

You're an IDIOT. This is a 4,000-year-old war of aggression that Europe stupidly re-started. It's not about "values and ethics true to God," it's about curb-stomping those people who DARED to touch MY STUFF. On BOTH sides. Sorry, I've read the Pentateuch. There is NOTHING inherently good or peaceful about Jews that justifies letting them pull the crap they've been pulling ever since 1945 in that area. Getting rid of Hamas wouldn't stop the atrocities, and it would just lead to the formation of a "Hamas II."

This article is correct. The Western world needs to wake up and stop supporting Israel out of guilt for the Holocaust, because Israel is pulling much of the EXACT SAME crap that the Nazis pulled. Since Hamas is doing the same thing TOO, the ONLY morally-correct decision for the nations of the Western world to make is to pull support from BOTH sides and let them kill each other off, since that's what they want so bad.

I suggest you go and live in Israel (like I did for almost 10 years), then go live in Gaza, then in the West Bank, then in Aleppo, then in Sanaa (Yemen), then in Tripoli (Libya), then in Irbil (Iraq), then in Cairo – thereafter I'd like to read your "informed" comments! Shalom!

You cut the part of the interview when he explains that the foundation of the conflict is the decades old Israeli illegal military occupation of the Palestinian people. Contrary to what you claim, CNN did not play the “full interview”. In contrast the Israeli guest’s interview has been displayed online – in full. The questions you ask of the Palestinians are never put into context, and you never ask the Israelis about this brutal occupation. Your reporting is biased. It’s not fair and it’s not balanced.

Egypt, Jordan, and Syria attacked Israel in 1967, along with some other arab countries. In their defence Israel repelled the attacks and pushed back the invading armies. In doing so they took over the Golan Heights, the west bank, Gaza, and the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt got the Sinai back by making peace with Israel. I wouldn't categorize this as an illegal occupation of Gaza, more like self defence. Furthermore, Israel has always held open the door to peaceful co-existence with the Palestinians. I hope that when the hate mongers (Hamas) are gone then a Palestinian State can be peacefully created. Notice that the Palestinians have never tried peaceful methods to obtain a state and have instead vowed to destroy Israel at all cost.

The truth is not exciting, drama is and the people in charge know how to string people along. It is so sad the people of this country are more concerned about money than truth and facts.
