Erin Burnett traces her roots from Maryland farm to a remote Scottish island
When Erin Burnett found out about this project, she generally knew about her family history. She knew her family was from Scotland and Ireland. Erin found some things she didn't know, like she has some Russian blood. But the biggest surprise was finally learning the details about her family back in Scotland.

The CNN Roots project actually began the weekend Erin was heading to her childhood home, where her parents were packing up to move after nearly 50 years.

I think Erin Burnett is one of my favorites journalist on tv, because she is objective and professional. It was very interesting what she did, going back in time and places where her grand parents were...I tried to do the same thing but, its hard...I found some of my family is in Spain. Also, I found because DNA test that I have cousins even here in USA that I never seen in my live.
Sometimes going back one generation it is hard enough... now going back 4th generations is harder...

I like the part where Ancestry contacted a senior editor at CNN and they made a puff piece advertisement story about family history with a target demographic woman and a token male ancestor, who both happen to be related to a famous Scotsman. Is that your favorite part too Erin Burnett?
-I am dismayed by your lack of respect for anyone's heritage, including your own: you may not like hrr, yet Erin Burnett is the real thing...Someone who loves to look into the world to find what's right and if she's got the chance perhaps do something about it...nevertheless I've perhaps said too much here being an outsider, er, Canadian. -Make a better day andyou make a better world.
What a wonderful story! I hope to have my high school daughter who grew up on a farm and wants to be a journalist watch this video. It makes me appreciated who you are as a person and your values towards family and friends. Well done!

What an amazing, heart warming, historical event that must have been for you! It's absolutely wonderful...and, to be able to share that experience with those that you love. Nothing better! I have found so much, from Ancestry, while searching my roots; as well as my wife's, who is a Mayflower descendant. Take what you have found & cherish it, and continue to build upon it! LOVED your piece last night about finding your roots. I too went to Scotland this year in May for four weeks and met cousins I didn't know existed. My time was spent in Edinburgh, Portobello and Musselburgh and I knew that feeling you mentioned about walking in places your family had lived. At the end you and your uncle weren't the only ones crying....I was right there with you. Thank you so much for sharing.
