Who was Miriam Carey? Woman driver may have suffered from mental illness

Authorities are investigating why a 34-year-old Connecticut woman rammed barricades and led police on a chase near the U.S. Capitol that ended in her death.

We now know that the driver's one-year-old daughter, who was with her in the car is now in the custody of Washington's child and family services agency, and is currently staying with a foster family.

Did postpartum psychosis cause DC incident?

The investigation in Miriam Carey's background revealed that she may have been suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis.

Carey had been prescribed drugs to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, according to law enforcement sources, and also suffered a blow to the head last year, shortly before she found our she was pregnant.
