Richard Branson: Commercial space travel is the start of a new space race

Hundreds of travelers with deep pockets gathered in the Mojave Desert Wednesday to get a glimpse of the spaceship that's expected to take them into space next year.

Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic has already had two successful sound-barrier-smashing test flights.

Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber, and Leonoardo Dicaprio are among the daredevils who have signed up for this white-knuckle-inducing supersonic journey.

But who are the others shelling out $250,000 for seat on the Galactic?

The Hyperloop unveiled

Elon Musk, the man who co-founded PayPal and now heads Tesla Motors, finally unveiled his plan to get people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 30 minutes.

Hyperloop: San Francisco to L.A. in 30 minutes

It's a solar-powered, elevated transit system that seats passengers in aluminum pods inside a steel tube. The speed? 700 miles per hour.

Carnival's Cruise turn nightmare... again

One month after the Carnival Triumph left thousands of passengers stranded without power and working toilets and showers, vacationers on the Carnival Dream are now being flown home from the Caribbean after experiencing what they say were similar conditions.

Their ship with 4,300 guests was supposed to depart St. Maarten Wednesday, but the ship suffered a generator failure while at port.

Frustrated passengers tell CNN they weren't allowed to leave the ship – even though the bathrooms were overflowing.
But Carnival is disputing those claims.
